I keep seeing this question tossed about, naturally for the sole purpose of trashing Laurel, so I’m going to lay it out for people who are being willfully stupid when they ask the question.
Laurel would have had to do one very important thing after she called 911.
TAMPER WITH EVIDENCE.
Yes, Sara had been publicly declared alive last season. She had most definitely not been publicly declared to be a mask-wearing vigilante with ties to not only the city’s other masked wearing vigilante but also to its police department’s captain and an ADA in the district attorney’s office.
To keep Sara for being outed and connected to everyone, Laurel would have had to have gotten rid of Sara’s mask, her weapons, etc and so forth. That’s tampering with evidence. Which therefore makes calling the police pointless because they would never be able to track Sara’s killer without all the evidence. So there is problem number one.
Problem number two with calling the police is, like Laurel told Kelso when she was interrogating him in the hospital, most murders aren’t committed by strangers but by someone the victim knows. We already know Sara knew her killer. But how do police figure that out? They start asking questions.
Questions that absolutely no one can answer truthfully without exposing everything they want kept secret.
Where has Sara been? Cozumel?
Who are her friends? Joe and Nancy?
What did Sara do for a living? She was a bartender.
All of those would be nothing but cover stories (except the bartender part) and they would be useless to the police when trying to solve Sara’s murder.
Calling the police also risks exposing Sara’s real life which puts Quentin’s career in danger, Laurel’s career in dangers and Oliver’s life and vigilante activities in danger. So why call the police for help when you’re going to be thwarting them with lies from the very beginning to protect Sara’s identity as well as everyone else’s?
To address the “but the police aren’t looking for the Arrow any longer” argument that I know is coming, that only means they aren’t actively seeking to catch him. It doesn’t mean they won’t arrest him if they find out who he is in the course of an investigation. Why do you think Oliver and Laurel had to split from QC as soon as the cops were within their earshot?
I really don’t know why people are making this so hard. If they would look past their hate for Laurel, it’s plain as fucking day why she didn’t call 911. Because it’s literally the only chance they have to find out who murdered Sara and not expose themselves in the process.
